Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Callibrate your Wacom tutorialHad you finally made the transition from intuos 3 to intuos 4?, or Are you rich to change into an intuos 5? Had you made the transition from a first generation cintiq to the new ones?. More levels of pressure will mean more quality to the paintings, am i right?.
Did you thought that by default the pen will it be like using butter on bread?, you try it for the first time and you love all of it, you said i have sooooooo much control on my strokes im having a blast. Then only to realize you only have total control of the brush but when you are moving it really slow?. But when you do quick strokes the pressure drops a lot of paint making you redraw tons of stuff?
Did you ever thought that painter its hard to handle with new tablet? Too much pressure? If it has more pressure why i cant control more easier the beggining of the stroke which is more crucial?.

WHAAAT !!! a DD ?!

Watching: the monitor
Eating: trying to swallow my pride
Drinking: anything to help it go down

Yes, that was the first thing I yelled out this morning when I nearly had a heart attack when I realised I got nearly 2000 new messages overnight...which is about 1990 more than I usually get in the same time period. I cannot describe how grateful I am to recieve such an honour....and In less than two weeks before my birthday too, what a great gift ! I have sooo long wanted to be on the front page and man did it help out. And it's all thanks to You guys. To give an impression on the power of a DD, I'll give You this comparison...

Before the DD, I had somewhere in the mid 2000 pageviews, thats all collected over a period of a year and a half. In one day. when I logged in I had just over 5000 and by the time I finished checking all the messages hours later, I broke the 6000 mark...
Before, my most popular deviation was "Stranded" with about 70 favourites. But "High rise" ended up skyrocketing to the mid 700s and by the time I checked all my messages, It had gained nearly 300 more...
Before the DD, I had just got my 50th watcher a few days ago, now I have over 160 of them...
And as for the comments, well that was undescribable. I still cant believe I read every single one, Yep it's true. If You take the time to comment then the least I can do is read it. All comments are appreciated even if I didn't reply. In fact I logged in at 10:00 am and by the time I checked all of the comments and most of the favs, it was 4:30 pm. I wish I could have thanked all those who faved and watched me but viewing around 2000 pages in one day ( with slow internet ) is virtually impossible. So it's easier to thank You all here!

Well without pushing my boasting too far, I was going to update my journal anyway to inform You guys that it has become really obvious in whats hot and whats not in my gallery. I don't need anyone to tell me that my landscapes and space scenes are the best with fan-art ( another common category in my gallery ) trailing far behind in quality. So I decided to reduce how often I do fan-art and spend more time doing what people are here for. with the exeption of one to be submitted soon thats already completed...And yes plenty more floating islands to come.

Thats the best part, more than half of my watchers I currently have found me through it. A DD is more than a day in the spotlight, it does wonders for who earned it over the long term.
