Three Little Projects

Ahh, there's nothing like finding some new and interesting to work on to break up the more casual stuff. Plus it's also a reason to finally update my journal.

Two are actually Avatar-related. Yep, while the movie has been out for ages and I've had an inspired journal CSS for a while now (that keeps bugging out of me so I apologize if it displays crap on some monitors, damn HTML volatility) I'm only now finally doing some serious hommage to it that I'm sure will make everyone happy :la:

The first will probably be my next deviation, something really cool that I've been working on for ages already and is nearing completion by now. But since it's coming soon I might as well not ruin the surprise, but my first fan-art for it will be something that surely would make jaws hit keyboards and make up for the long delay, and I don't say that much, so I'm speaking out of excitement and a little bit of pride I must admit ;)

The second is something more for myself, being a real-life thing best appreciated in person. But is actually the one I'm more excited about doing for that reason alone. I've had my aquarium for almost 5 years now and during that time I was happy conforming to the "fake reef" look that I've sometimes seen in other aquariums and is vividly colourful. But times have changed and my creativity has grown since then, so the tank will be getting a makeover! :omg: Most present decorations that have now faded and been stained by algae over the years will be replaced with something a little more...Bioluminescent (try saying that ten times!) I'm giving the tank and avatar theme too. To some it may be a fandom gone too far, but to me it's because I just love shiny glowy vegetation, and also the interest and well-designed aquarium brings to the room. So that's been my top priority lately as I regularly buy all kinds of fake tropical and alien-like plants, as well as blue submersible lights and maybe glowing gravel off ebay in preparation for the dramatic change that my brother referred to as "Pimp my Tank"
But I have another damn house move ahead so I likely won't be setting it up too soon, I gotta wait for the stuff I bought on ebay to arrive anyway. But one thing I can work on meanwhile is making a custom background for the aquarium that if it looks "artistic" enough I may post here, it'll be the neon forest scene and I hope I can find a place that prints large images, Anyway, photo's may come if I can get one decent enough but being a long way off from completion I wouldn't hold your breath :fish:

The third isn't something started by me personally but I may enjoy contributing to it, though I'm not sure if the original artist wants the idea promoted yet before it's started so I'm not going to say what. But I will just say it will be inspiration and maybe even fun for anyone interested in the space-art genre, so of course I volunteered to be a contributor after being pre-selected :shh:

And so that's it, I guess these things will gradually be done and released over time, it at least gives me stuff to think about and look forward to :painter:

Lol, after typing that I decided to say it ten times and I found it surprisingly doable...so much for that "challenge" :dummy:

Right now I have a couple of Cichlid fish and a few other, more "universal" tropical freshwater fish in there. But with the tank change I'm going back to goldfish due to the fact they're cheaper and I can have more of them in there at once :fish:

I know they're not the most exciting types...if I really had money to burn I'd get marine fish which are so much cooler. But averaging at around $70 per fish, and the fact I need about a dozen to keep the tank looking bare, PLUS a device called a "protein skimmer" AND a new filter which would cost hundreds...well, going for that would wind up costing me a thousand dollars at least :faint:

I'll be sure to pick interesting goldfish, not just plain orange "fisbowl" ones - I'd get some with more graceful or strange features 8-)

lol, if you get some rock fish and a charcoal filter, you shouldn't have any problems ;P cheep and efficient :D or maby some seasnale, there even cheaper:XD: i reccomend getting them as babys, that way you get ALOT of them so that way the fish will have to try very hard to get them when there just growing up :meow:

They actually look like cool fish, are the tropical or coldwater though? But if they're saltwater it'll be out of the question since saltwater tanks need extra filtering equipment which costs a lot. Plus I've never seen those in pet shops, usually just in the seafood isle

coldwater:meow: LOL iv never seen them in the sea food section just in the pet stores and yes they are very cool fish:D they help clean the tank too, so you really never have to feed them so long as your feading the rest of the fish's.hter found over at places like petco and such, same goes for the snails :meow: the snails dont like salt that much in case you were wonderin;P

Ooh, exciting times!

I haven't yet met a person who didn't like Avatar, so I think being a wee bit (or a whole lot) fan crazy is understandable. It was way cool.

The aquarium sounds nifty. If I were a fish, I'd want to swim around in something like that LOL

Oooh, the third... suspenseful!

Lol, it's funny you say that - in real life I haven't met anyone who didn't like it, yet online there's frequent bashing of it :paranoid: I think though it's mainly because of its popularity - doesn't matter how good something is, if it gets popular - some people will hate it anyway, I think some people just feel more unique by rebelling against something everyone else loves, I remember seeing this same joke pointed out on Family Guy once :lmao:

Too bad the fish wouldn't be able to appreciate it, being...well, dumb and all :slow: But I'll make sure they're comfortable :D as they are what really adds a sense of life and movement to it.

Ahh, the haters because it's popular. That never really made sense to me, personally. If I think something is cool, I think it's cool. If I don't, I don't.
For example, As a teenage girl, I don't hate Twilight because it's popular, I think it's a badly written predictable story. On the other hand, I absolutely adore Harry Potter.

LOL Especially since they are goldfish. Don't they only have a memory of like 3s?

Yeah, I don't care if something is overly popular or not - if I enjoy it, then so what. I like knowing I'm not a mass-media follower, but I'm not so desperate to be different that I would bash something just because everybody else likes it. Twilight and Harry Potter I don't care about personally, I don't like or hate them, the way I see it - people shouldn't be judging stuff before they see it, and I haven't seen/read anything Twilight or Harry Potter related, so who am I to judge

The myth is that goldfish have a seven-second memory span. But I doubt it's true. Last time I had goldfish they learned when it was feeding time. When I approached the tank and opened the lid, they knew to come swimming to the surface for food :hungry:
