NEW information: Less than a day later and I've got many comments, thanks a lot for all your opinions :handshake: however one comment really got me thinking and is steering me towards a decision I didn't even consider before...
~SOULSSHINE showed me some youtube videos of the highest version - "Wacom Cintiq" in action, and also stated that if I'm going to be spending this much money, then why not go all the way and get the best? Of course, it's cost goes far beyond what I was originally intending on getting, however seeing how my own mother owes me a lot of money I lent her ages ago, I think I can still afford it and have some to spare. There's few reasons not to get this one, you can draw directly on the artwork on the screen, and if I'm limited for space, I could probably even sit it on my lap sometimes :XD: since it would be just like drawing on paper on a notepad!
Might as well ay? take advantage of the fact I have no house or car, and therefore - no bills to have to worry about at the moment, I don't want this to be the same situation like when I got the cheaper version of "Vue 6" and only months later, wished I bought the higher-level one :ohnoes:

(P.S sorry for the journal spammage, I'll try not to journal again until I get the tablet for real ;))

OLD information (just so the comments from before still make sense to readers)...
Lol, looks like I have yet another question again...the sort of stuff I should post in the forums, but I would probably get a more professional response from some of my watchers =p

Buying a Wacom Intuos3 tablet has only been on my mind for about a month now, but the urge to get one is to the point where I found myself bidding for one on ebay today (aww, I lost at the last second because my internet lagged :() However I used this misfortune to an advantage, maybe I should be getting a different one to what I was going to get...

I am looking at the "6x8 - A5" sized version, it seems to be an appropriate size; but for those who do have one, would you consider that too small to work comfortably? I was looking at `alexiuss's page earlier today and the one I had my eyes on is the same he uses, and he seems to do fine with that  But I wanted to know what you guys have and what would be the best one to go with (remember that I'm not made of money, I probably won't spend more than $600 Australian, hence why I'm searching ebay first ;))

Long story short, is it a classic case of "bigger is better"? I can't see myself needing something too huge. I now have my eyes turned to the "9x12 - A4" version...unless you reckon the smaller one will be enough, since the A4 size is a little beyond my range...even on ebay :hmm:

Thanks for your thoughts in adavnce :handshake:

WOW that was a lot, if you made it this far, then you deserve a Coke.
Yeah...I need to change this footer lol, hope Pepsi is OK?

Yeah, I'm not getting any other brand, I want to buy only once, so I want to do it right ;) no point wasting money on a cheap version, and then getting a Wacom months later lol. It was moreso what size I could get I was asking...But I think I have made my decision :plotting:

I work on 4 by 6, 6 by 8, and 9 by 12 regularly, on a daily basis. 4 by 6 is just too small for my big clunky hands, 6 x 8 is a dream for quickly sketching on a single 17" monitor. a 9 x 12 is by far my favorite for production work on a dual monitor setup, the reason is with 2 monitors you need a lot of space on your tablet, otherwise the 2nd monitor cuts off too much space of your tablet.

Hmm, well I havn't actually measured my laptops screen, it's just a typical widescreen monitor =p when I was planning on the Intuos, that's what had me wondering, which was better for my screen size. But now I'm seeing if I can get the Cintiq  and all the work on that is done purely on-screen anyway ;)

I use the Intou3 9x12. I can sit in my lap, but I just lay it on my keyboard. The work is nearly the identical size as notebook paper, so it is a size I am used to working with. The price is very reasonable for the product received, but follow your gut instinct. Doing so will save "what if's" in the future. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Cool, wasn't expecting any more comments here :XD: and yeah, that sounds like a good size, I'm %99 certain I'm going to get the Cintiq, just so there's no "what if" questions  however that comes in two sizes, all I gotta do is carfully choose which size would be best for me :)

Well, like I said, follow what your gut tells you. And, what is needed for your art.

All the best.

I use an old 4x6 Wacom Intuos tablet for all my painting. I have a bigger one at work, but I don't really prefer it. It's all a matter of what you're used to, I guess.

I've contemplated the Cintiq, and my friends who have switched from tablet to Cintiq swear it's a life-changing experience, but I can't sink the money into it right now. If I did it, I'd get the biggest size - what's the point otherwise?

Good luck, toss that mouse and get something, you'll never regret it. I adore my tablet and I suffer greatly when we are separated for any length of time :)

Hmm, yeah, I'm seeing if I can afford the bigger Cintiq, since your'e right...if you're gonna spend all that money on something, then might as well go that extra bit further and get the best :D
And those are good stories too, I only have asked one of the rare Cintiq user's *Rahll about what it's like, and he said pretty much the same as what your friends said

Anyway, I hope you can afford to get one too, if they are as great as everybody says, then I can only image what you could do (and how fast you could do it) if you got one...but some artists are good enough that they can do fine while they are without one ;)

Wacom's at work hey? what do you do for a job? would be great to work in a job that involves digital painting :omg: I'm still just a student for now :p

Oh, and thanks for visiting :thanks:

I work as a 3D artist (we use Maya), I do a little modeling, a little animating, and a whole lot of lighting, shaders, and texturing - hence the Wacom tablet and Photoshop for making texture maps. It's not exactly digital painting, your end product is not a painting but rather a map that gets applied to a 3D model - but it can be fun. I've made texture maps for showgirls, spaceships, centipedes... but then there's projects like the one I'm on now that involves loads of sports team logos, zzzz :(

I also work with 2d animators and they use Cintiques to draw/animate cartoons with Flash. They love their Cintiqs too :)

Wahetever you get, you're going to love it! :)
