Daily Deviation
First, let's get the good stuff out of the way (wow, I make that sound like a chore ) But thanks to the many people (and I know there's a lot of you!) who suggested my Spectrum of Emotions for a Daily Deviation, and to `Synfull for featuring on there a couple of days ago  It was pretty successful for my first emoticon as is, so getting the DD for that, which is very different to the rest of my work and was highly experimental was a really appreciated surprise :wow:

Pissed priteeboy
Now lets spoil the moment with some ranting shall we :eager:?
First is one I've been noticing a lot in the past few weeks is often new and attention-starved artists trying to promote their work to others by sending notes with their thumbnails to deviants they never even bothered to comment/fave/watch etc beforehand, asking for comments or even not saying anything! I think I must have gotten 3 or 4 of those from various people in the past week, one was OK since the person was actually asking me for help in something I knew about (Vue problems) but others come out of nowhere showing me art that's far from my style, medium or subject and what can they really expect me to say about something I have no knowledge of? I guess I've been too nice, since I saw the other names they send it to, and all I can say is good luck getting those artists to respond :sarcasm: Now I'll just forget e'm. Plus I've had people copy-paste comments on my work and others trying to get me/them to join this or that site and sell my work as stock...let me tell you, the usage of my work I think is worth MUCH more than a few measly dollars! :buymyprints:

Oh, but why pay to use my work, or any artist's for that matter when now - art-theivery has been made 4 times more convenient for all outside parties who are wanting to use your hard work to beautify their facebook accounts...Yes, I'm complaining about the new "share" features and from what I've seen in the forums and news recently, I'm not the only one who thinks dA just threw out a major portion of it's regards to the copyrights of the artist's works. I'm not saying they shouldn't have done it, but we should have the option to turn it off, all that time I spent mentioning that I don't want my art displayed on other sites without permission has practically been thrown out the door. I waste enough time chasing down retards using my art for God knows what, I don't need the problem magnified further :fight:

Oh, and the small portion of you who use Vue and kept a keen eye on this years environment competition on e-on software would know just how disappointingly biased that contest was, I complained enough about some of the finalists when I submitted my entry Tenta-pools but it was made worse when one of the 3 images I complained about in particular came FIRST! there were so many great entries that showed how original and creative a Vue-user could be, but did you pick them? no - you chose a silhouetted island at sunset! wow, I never could have thought of that :sarcasm: I'm not blaming the artist, just the judges - I could make that same winning entry using nothing more than the presets Vue provides and I could do it in an hour...I've entered a lot of contests in the past few years but have never felt as if one was rigged before as much as I do now...Mine didn't deserve to win, but those other entries I saw were grossly underrated and I have never seen hundreds of dollars worth of prizes given away so easily...next year I'm going to make such a quick simple scene and all hell will break loose if I don't come first for it! :rage:

Calendar
I'm still thinking on whether I should make a calendar to sell here for 2010, I still have enough time to make the 12 necessary artworks (though I would have to make them one after the other and try to get one done each week) It was going to have the Solar System as the theme, but not plain-looking images of planets that we see in the rooms of high school science classes. But rather my own impression of the surfaces of the planets, still recognisable and at least 50% accurate/real - but also a bit stylised to make them look cool...Anyone reckon I should do it? I guess I need to find how to make them here too, if it's too technical I might forget about it :p

And there goes another trademark text-wall, I took the liberty of making each area seperate since I don't expect many to read it all :faint:

*Note to Self* don't forget these contests:

Aww damn, I know that was besides the point, but that's a sad story, especially since there were kids involved...No one in my family steals or takes drugs (anymore) but some do have other habits that fuel problems, like one drinks and smokes a lot and the othe ris a mild gambling addict...sad seeing anyone piss time, money and their lives away on such things :disbelief:

Hmm, can't help ya with that image, I tend to avoid the whole wolf-art thing. I just could never get what was so great about wolves and why it's so popular here...there could be hundreds of deviations on this site going by that description...you could always search "Wolf" or similar in the dA search box - but I can't imagine how many results you'd get :faint:

Lyrics would be even easier to steal since there's no visual styles or anything that can "give it away" like visual art, so those were good ideas in this case

Lyrics seem to be easier to trace, due to being able to put an exact line from a song into the search engine. That's how I find the names/artists/lyrics of songs I hear, but didn't previously know all of the info.
Yeah, search for "wolf howling at moon" and get countless results.

Hey Matthew, I forgot to mention that the lyric writer is a cute young lady from your Country. Who knows, you might even know her, although I don't know directly where in the Country she lives:

*nod* I agree. They are just annoying flies buzzing around you if they do that. I wish we could swat them all.

I think a spacy calender would be great in the long run, though if it turns out to be too much trouble I'd skip it at least until next year or something.

Yeah, I mean - asking for help or critique is OK, but there's gotta be limits. I've had the same person ask me for two in the course of just 24 hours, the collective time I spent giving advice on each of their pictures must have added up to almost half an hour :work: and they never even credited me in their deviation comments either...seems like a lot of work for a thankless task that benifits me in no way at all :p luckily it's very rare :phew:

I started on the calendar today actually :boogie: for once I'm actually hoping I get no commissions (most of the time I don't anyway) until I get it done. Since the artwork is going to be slightly smaller, I should get it done faster too without neglecting my own standard of quality :greetings:

*sighs..shakes head* Thankless ingrates.

Great! :boogie: Sounds like it's really going to be good. I KNOW I'm going to what it on my wall. I'll try to save up for it. :D

congrats on the DD! Wow, six DDs is pretty impressive!

As far as the calendar - why not? From what I understand, DA has a template set up and it's not supposed to be that difficult to use. I'm sure they'd sell!

Thanks, I rarely come across anyone with six or more, I can only name `arcipello right off the top of my head, but I just went and checked and now it seem's he has another (that's nothing, I saw someone else with a dozen of them, I forget who it was thugh :stupidme:) but I ain't arguing against six =p

Phew, I remember looking at the Help and FAQ about calendars the day after me making this journal, and it seems nice and simple, and apparently - they can be valid for any year if you don't put a year on the title or artwork, so it's not like it'll only be one year's worth of efforts. Once I get a couple of other pictures done for other things, I think I might start :plotting:

hey man,

finally got around to reading your journal. I prefer to read them a few days after you post them, when the mass of replies has finished :P

Firstly congrats on the DD that deviation is pretty damn good! :)
The stock photo and random msg's being sent is something I get on my more popular deviations and it really pisses me off but at the end of the day you just have to brush it off and hide the comment and just deal with it hey...
Oh and the Vue Contest. I must say I was EXTREMELY surprised to see that image win. Seriously. WTF GUYS?

I completely agree with you. it's not the artists fault. it's the judges. There was no reward in experimentation and PUSHING VUE to its limits... like I feel you did. especially with your plants.
At the same time though... the guy that made that simple image could well be a newbie to Vue and the prizes might be going to the right hands... However unfortunately I have the feeling that's not the case... I would have *known* it was going to the right hands if you had won.

Suppose it's life hey!

oh well.
better luck next year man!

I have the opposite logic - comment a journal as soon as it appears since 1) the artist is still in that state of mind, and 2) if its a popular artist and your'e fast enough - getting in first really gives you an attention-boost if you say something that stands out

Yeah, I'm over the spam messages now, it just got fuelled further when I saw other artists on my watchlist get the same, plus it's demeaning to think that they expect me to sell my art as stock for next to nothing, when someone who wants to pay for the rights to use my work would give me $100 in some cases (and that's just the non-commercial stuff, otherwis eit would be more)

And yes, my entry displayed use of almost all of Vue's features - I used metablobs, displacement, Global Radiosity, Metaclouds, the plant editor and the ability to import objects modelled in outside programs...that in itself shows how versatile Vue can be and more than just "a landscape program" with some creaive thinking...But the winner seems to have used just a couple of terrains, Vue palms and a water-plane at the very most...it's a very weak example of what Vue can be used for :movingon: That's one thing I don't think I'll never get over...otherwise I would have by now :tantrum:

I'll be entering next year, if they want simple and Clich'e they'll get it! :shakefist:
