Final thoughts - Jerry Springer style:

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 19, 2009, 8:00 AM
  • Mood: Grouchy
  • Watching: The shitty weekend cartoon shows
  • Playing: Mario Kart Wii
  • Eating: Biscuits
  • Drinking: Water
That's right, Jerry Springer style - where the least entertaining, but the most valuable material is saved for after the scenes where disgruntled people rip at each other :fight:

The fact is - while I still don't fully believe it wasn't based off my Where subscriber's money goes. There's just as little proving it was so after talking with the maker I decided to let this ONE instance slide - I still stand by everything I said and I think what those said in their comments still remains valid to anything really - so I reckon no-one wasted any time here, since it proved a point for future events that will inevitably piss me off in the future...so now that you all know - don't do it ;)

Still, I think it provided an excuse for me to now talk about something that struck me a while beforehand when I saw another artwork that was similar to mine, but not entirely - otherwise I wouldn't have complimented the artist like I did, first - some visuals before I keep talking:

The first one is mine, the second is from another artist I watch and have nothing against, so this isn't a "bad" feature again people ;) but it's an example of how two similar works cannot cause the artists to clash when they see each other...Mine was on here before his and I was actually a little shocked when I saw it in my inbox. But I noticed that although the two artworks are similar concepts, they are just different enough to be unique and so that picture didn't bother me as much a sthat other did since I sill think the resemblence of the island ones was still scaringly dead-on. My final thought is - if you must draw something, at least think outside the box in terms of colour, composition, lighting, angle, perspective etc - since chances are - your "original" idea has probably been done before...For those who do generic stuff like portraits of celebrities, photo's of flowers or pictures of planets floating over a landscape or whatever - there's less stress there since those have been done to death anyway and nobody "owns" those things. Just like nobody here owns islands and the dA logo - but I was the first-ever to combine the two and one can't blame me for getting upset, that's like Buzz Aldrin telling everyone that HE was the first person to step on the moon :diny:

DeviantWORLD Contest
I was also reminded of me being a judge for the "DeviantWORLD" contest, and once again the stupidity of people surfaces there too, just look at the entries [link] - half of them have NO relavence to the topic whatsoever...there you have it - 50% of you contestants have already FAILED in my eyes :judge:

I think you should start taking things less serious, don't bother all TOO much on what other people do or say. In the end you'll waste your enegery and focus on things you cannot really control and therefore it's all for waste.

It's good you have your head up but don't let it slide too much mate, it's not worth it.

It's mainly because throughout my entire life I've had my work copied, repliated or stolen - both digitally and even physically on some occasions - after a while you start to feel like your'e only feeding the desires of everyone else and art is no longer personal anymore :hmm:. I wouldn't worry about time and energy being wasted - with no life, I have shitloads of it :sleepy:

You know, and this is completely off the subject, but I LOVE reading your journals. I always read every one and right through to the end, not just that but I read all the comments too. For some reason you always choose interesting topics to talk about which trigger great discussions. :)

Oh and I completely agree with everything you have said. It's so hard to be original and unique, if you create something that had never, EVER been done before than you are either a total genius, an alien or very soon to be a millionaire! But there is a fine line when it comes down to what is just a common idea or a complete copy. I have no respect for 'artists' who think it is perfectly fine to take someone else's art, tweak it slightly and then have the nerve to call it their own. Unless they actually did just happen to think of the exact same idea and had never seen the similiar art before, and I don't know if that is what happened with your island or not but anyway it's still my opinion on 'art thieves' ';) I don't mind if someone asks the person if it is okay to draw something based off their art and place a link in their artist comments though.

Some people here journal about any o'l crap - a movie they like, a magazine you "must buy", or their damn trip to the mall, and such people spam my inbox with at least a couple of journals every day :frustrated: I try to only journal when important matters arise that also involve the community in some way - it's better to have one interesting and well-read journal a month than some useless update each weekend :p glad you read my journals :highfive:

Definitely. I'd rather people not update their journals everyday with unimportant things, because then I have to scroll through them in my messages. However, I am guilty of occasionally writing about pointless things ><. Mostly it's about new programs I have discovered though, or updates on my art progress.(I wrote about a magazine you 'must buy' once, but it was a 3D artist magazine that came with around $600 worth of free material and a whole 3D program. I think that's okay ^^)

I've only bought one issue of 3D artist Magazine when I was just starting 3D myself in early 2007 :XD: well that and it was a special on 3D art in Japanese culture that I couldn't pass up :D

Ooh, I wish I had that one - sounds pretty neat. The program that came with the issue I have is called Carrara. I think it's fairly new, by Daz I'm pretty sure.

"We'll be right back after these commercials! stay tuned if you want to see a morbidly obese white woman accuse her tall, dark and handsome African-American boyfriend of cheating on her with a far superior female"

the two suns ones I don't think look anything alike. Same type of color shemes, but those are associated with heat etc. As far as two suns, when making many fantasy/sci fi landscapes, there are so many out there that will have two or more of something. In this instance, in all honesty, if someone had looked at that pic and said they were copied(and I see there is such a difference) I would actually say that person was being a bit asinine and needs to chill. Since I know for a fact they weren't the first person in the univers to make duplicates of certain planets in the same piece. These people who do something like that have probably been inspired by book covers, or have first seen it with Dune.

I mean seriously. First time I ever saw it I was like "ooh, that's a neat idea" and wouldn't be surprised if I found myself making my own pic with two moons. So, yeah. For those two, I think if someone got pissed off about that detail, I would say get a life.

The island one, that's a whole different story. It was obviously a creative and original idea. The person didn't even at least have the decency to make it flowers or something, but straight up copied it. The way it was done was as if a picture of yours was taken from a slight different angle, and then blurred. That type of similarity is ridiculous.

So, yeah. There's my thoughts >>
