Upside Town by priteeboy Upside Town by priteeboy
Nothing like a surreal stroll upside down and right way up at the same time for this year's Halloween themed artwork :D Not for the easily disoriented and feeble-willed, but that's just Halloween! :pumpkin:

Making this didn't feel like much of a stroll though, in fact I must admit it felt like a tedious chore for the most part, only getting really exciting near the end, so I can say to everyone not to expect many ones like this at all. But having at least one out of the ordinary for my gallery like this makes it worth consuming my whole October (even if half if it was procrastinating on the boring bits :paranoid:) I still didn't give up simply because I've had this on my mind since last Halloween but didn't give myself enough time for it then...That and I loved the title I thought of too much to waste

This one's fully digitally painted, I didn't use any 3D here or even textures. It was an interesting perspective exercise too but I'm no pro at that so it might be prone to flaws but hopefully not enough to disrupt the effect of it. And yes, you can save it and flip it upside down to look at the other if you want to, just no re-posting ;p

All artwork in my gallery remains my copyrighted creative work and is not to be redistributed, modified or sold without my permission

This would be a good candidate for a new Boo-themed 'Mario Galaxy' world. :iconcellcow:

Yeah, they could get really creative with the switching gravity that's used a lot in those games on a place like this  Maybe they could make red boos and green boos and each type only becomes "active" when walking on the matching-colour side =p

You might be on to something. While I playing "Luigi's Mansion 2" there was a level, called 'Treacherous Mansion' (The final Mansion). It was like a museum inside, with each room having it's own theme (Exhibits). These being: Jungle, Desert, Snow, Middle Ages, Nautical (Sailing), Train, Space, and Aviation (Flying). Including the Study, Kitchen, and Restrooms.

Anyway, these rooms were connected with 'Portals', allowing you to fast-travel to any room from the main hall.

That sounds kinda cool. I never played the first Luigi's Mansion since I didn't really get much incentive to do so, but the second seems interesting :O

This is what I imagine the Black City in The Fade in Dragon Age looks like, and it has a great mind bending quality. I love it very much! :D

It is a game. LOL sorry, I think I just assume things, but long story short The Fade is another dimension (sort of like Purgatory) where people go when they dream and also the home to demons. There was a city there which you only ever see from the distance, hovering on these spectral landmasses, called The Black City.

This makes me think of what the Black City might look like upclose, all topsy turvy and weird, and slighty macabre and dream-esque.

Glad you appreciate all the little details...They took even longer than usual for this one. I must say I was already sick of it by the time I was just halfway. Lucky I was determined enough to finish it :phew:

That's mind blowing. Working with red and green is not an easy task, and you pulled it off wonderfully.
Your composition is perfect. I can't even find any concrit to say. I love this.

Yeah, as I've said before- it's rare to use red and green on something and not have it looking like a Christmas decoration :xmas: I think it lies in my choice to not use "pure" reds or greens (the reds are a little bit orange, the green is a little bit yellowish)

What a beautiful picture! I was wondering if I could share some of your work on my Face Book author page? I would, of course, make sure to credit you! My books are YA fantasy with a touch of paranormal and a lot of Halloween and I would love to have some pictures on my fan page to reflect that. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us!

Thanks for the compliment. Hmm, that's sort of a grey area there, Normally I allow my work to be feature don blogs even if the blog is about a certain thing or theme. But generally I don't like my work being used to promote someone elses creation or item for sale, or uploaded to Facebook or other social networking sites (only because even if you do provide credit - people there feel like every image they come across is free for the taking ) I'm kinda leaning towards no at the moment, only because Facebook is something I avoid like the plague anyway :paranoid:

Sorry you didn't have much fun for most of the creation process, but it came out really well! I love the perspective you chose, and the design of the town itself! Really awesome!
It makes me wonder how difficult it would be to recreate something like this in 3D, like with Maya... That might be a lot of fun! :P

I think it would take a lot longer to do in 3D, but probably easier than drawing it since you don't have to worry about "wrong" perspective or lighting in 3D (plus after you model a dozen unique buildings or so you could get away with cloning some models ;p) Thanks for faving too!
