My main entry to :icontreeswithcharacter:'s Summer contest, and boy I bet no-one, not even myself expected something along the lines of this vibrantly-coloured surprise.

First, I was going to try and paint a scene in Photoshop, something deliberately in my older style, just nicer, such as an imporved version of Bihai beach. But wasn't happy with where it was heading, so I tried 3D but that just didn't cut it for what I had in mind...
So since I've been bitten by the vector bug, mostly due to posters I'm working on for a project in my Digital Media class, I thought why not make my first serious vector art attempt my entry for the contest...I think this was the best medium and style I could have chosen for such a theme too, and I think its good for an early attempt :D And was fun using my favourite combination of colours too!

Most was done from scratch, some parts of those swirly-leafy bits were vectorised by me, based on some images I found on another computer, so that gave me good pen-tool practice. Splattery bits ( always a winner in vector art ) are a free resource I founfd at BenBlogged.com, the rest was all just done myself purely out of imagination, hope this gets you in the North geared up for the onslaught of Summer, and I hope it warms up the Winter for those in the South like me.

There's a reason that little guy looks so oblivious.

It sure did give me hours of stress making this :frustrated: especially when you make a large curve, and then do a small one after, only to get some wild loop in there, But I found ways around that eventually

Once you have the basics of Adobe Photoshop, and its cousin-products like Illustrator, the pen tool can be a bit daunting at first. But before this, I maybe had only spent a combined time of just a few hours with it, spread out over along time. And yet this shows that I picked it up quite quickly considering the minimal practice I had beforehand ;) But also, it's always easier to learn about something you are interesting in learning too.

At least when Summer end sin the Philippines, the "Winter" isn't so bad, being a tropical location...Now with Winter heading my way, theres going to be lots of freezing, rainy and muddy days, along with the common cold that comes along with it :blownose:

Oh well, others have it worse, it dosn't even snow where I live in Winter ( sometimes gets below freezing at night ) but I couldn't handle those -30 degree Winters they get in places like Canada or far north Europe.
