Something In The Woods by priteeboy Something In The Woods by priteeboy
Something foreign and eerie found growing in the forest. Unlike any of the neighbouring trees it captivates and even intimidates passer-byers with its twisted, demented form. And a tendency to not be in the same place upon repeat visits :paranoid:

Well, here's my "sorry I missed Halloween" piece  While I had something else in mind for that, nature had something else in mind for me  So I settled upon something easier to make for this month (even though it's over where I am, but hey, it's probably still October somewhere :paranoid:) Plus it was something unique for me to do a woodland kind of scene, and I wanted to achieve the same surreal mood I've seen in countless photo's of such places too.
Created mostly in Vue with some Photoshop postwork.

...and a guardian stalked the woods, branches like gnarled talons waiting to seize and rend all those who'd transgress against the forest.

I have heard about the fires there, please take care, Matthew. Living through the California ones still reverberates through my mind. Please stay safe....

We're getting late-Summer quality fires...in MID-SPRING! :ohnoes:

But once again it seems to be happening in every town except for mine :phew: so there's nothing to worry about for me (not yet anyway)

Adds an uncomforting note to an otherwise tranquil scene. We know not what it is which sets a stage for all kinds of fear and imagination. Could it just be a peculiar oddity that has somehow manage to survive or are there more and darker secrets that reside within it and our own minds? Not all is what it seems to be.... Happy Halloween.

I like the idea of finding the last of some ancient species thought to not exist anymore :plotting: But who knows, maybe this tree is mutated :XD:

I remember playing the one on the Nintendo 64 years ago. But since then I haven't really been able to hold much interest in the franchise like I did with others. But I do remember that really old Deku tree :iconshakecaneplz:

i like how realistic your stuff is and i really like this one(along with some other pieces of your art).
This one has a creepy yet relaxing atmosphere to it. Another cool thing i wanted to point out is how it is set during (what seems like ) a sunrise. most creepy pictures i see are set during night time or some have a red or black/dark colored backround. but this one is set during broad daylight yet still maintaining a creepy look at the same time. And that's what i find unique about this. ;)

Thanks for the compliment. I think it is possible for certain things to be creepy yet calming at the same time. Though usually under very specific circumstances. So I'm glad this could be one of them

I think sunrise can be a very surreal time of the day. I often see it used a lot in surreal art actually. It is generally affiliated with optimism, but a "dark sunrise" can have an eerie feel to it :)

then there's that other instance where i see a really cloudy sky in a picture too. and yes, the "dark sunrise" is pretty eerie

The forest looks amazing, does indeed look like the many misty forest photography seen on Dev, much like the shots my father takes too actually (minus the creepy plant),
you must have been inspired by the Triffid's? "the day of the Triffid's" where sentient man eating plants overrun the world.

Yeah, it's amazing how many photo's of places like this there are on dA. That's where I got the idea from. Guess a lot of users live in these sort of areas (seeing how most people on dA are from north America and Europe)

I remember seeing that movie. It was interesting concept-wise but I felt it was a little too dragged out and dull at some points ^^; But yeah, there's some inspiration from that too :)

I know what you mean.... I actually get sick of DA,
so many freaking cats! every second there is yet another photo of a
kitten/cat or horse, or the weird human mix... humanoid animals, whatever the name is for them,
I admit I love cats, I have a fondness for animals, but I don't want to smother myself in pictures of them....

Well, wasn't the best reference I could have made since the Triffids movie they made for TV, was pretty shit...
but the concept, and the tree-like look, it just reminded me of your evil tree, well, maybe it's just misunderstood,
as most mysterious things are. :)

I agree that the photography section of dA is an abomination at best unless you browse according to popularity, even though under normal circumstances I consider that unfair :p There is an obsession with human/animal mixes or "furries" on dA too. Some have a sexual attraction to those things. Others are just so fascinated by them that they'd rather be one than a human (the crazier ones say they are an animal trapped in a human body :slow:) I just don't get the fascination

Yeah, straight-to TV (or DVD) movies generally aren't great. But there is always someone out there who must like it. Otherwise there would be a lot of broke studio's :XD:

Yeah, does seem to be a fascination for "furries",
and, a weird fetish indeed... disturbing in fact.

Yeah, I actually can't think of a "straight to TV" movie that
I actually like.... I do wonder who likes watching these mini series that keep popping up
from so called big directors, the Falling Skies one from
Steven Speilberg or something, I was quite disappointed with that one.

Glad you still like my work :)

Do not worry! Sometimes you need to take it easy. It is not necessary for each one of your works to be a hit. The fact that you keep on improving is enough. And remember, if everything was a hit, then it would become boring after a while. Little surprises every now and then can be helpful though! :)

Comparing to me, you are still a hundred levels higher! ;p
