Snowy mountain by priteeboy Snowy mountain by priteeboy
This is my very first attempt at using Vue 6. Actually it is my first experience with Vue at all. I was trying to avoid the stereotypical snowy mountain scene that lots of other Vue users do in their first try but I did so anyway because it was a not too challenging first task and even though the program and those who use it are capable of producing far better stuff, I still consider it good for a first try.

I had to render this twice! The first time took 7 hours and stupid me accidentally deleted the first render. But this one was better because there is an even amount of light and shadow ( first had only the lit side facing the camera ) But for some reason the second render took 17 hours even with lower render quality ! I think it was because the preview screen didn’t have a chance to catch up. Oh well, I hope it was worth it.

how do you get the mountains part rock and part snow? I can't quite work out how to do that

You need a mixed material, one material being the rock parts of the mountain, the other being the snow - then you adjust their influence of slope/altitude and orientation in the tab in the advanced material editor to your liking - here the snow (material 2) was set to appear at high altitudes and flat surfaces :snowing:

Thanks! I had some really basic knowledge from the couple of times I used Terragen, but Vue is still much more advanced, and Vue 7 comes with so much more too, so hopefully you'll have an even better start :D let me know when you make your first render :eager:

Damn! that happened to me when I upgraded from Vue 6 to Vue 7, it got a message saying my video board's driver was obsolete and an "out of memory" warning each time I attempted to launch it, fortunately I was getting a new laptop at the time, it's still giving me shit about video drivers but I tried fixing that and with half a million drivers to choose from - solving a now minor problem just isn't worth the effort :frustrated:

I sure hope that was just a trial version or torrent :hmm:

Actually PB it was a torrent file i tried to download at a trusted website i have. Lucky for me i unistalled the whole program. My Cpu detected a virus and healed the problem. That's what i get for trying to go the cheap route... :lmao: I guess Im going to have to look into making a small budget and purchasing Maya or another program to start with untill I can purchase Vue. It's cool no harm no foul. At least I learned a lesson... Know your Pirates before you leech there prgms! By the way, I was going to ask. What are your favorite programs to use for your artwork and If you could recommend something, what would it be? Have a great day Priteeboy!
