Shoot for the Stars by priteeboy Shoot for the Stars by priteeboy
And so a new journey begins as this here serves as a terminal for the crossing over of one year for another ( also makes a good wallpaper too ) and I actually stayed up to make sure I pressed "submit" as soon as the clock rolled over to 2008 lol ( Australian time dont forget )

As for the artwork itself, well even though it was more time-consuming than most, I really havn't got a deep concept for this one. Just a good o'l sci-fi / terraspace scene. It could be considered to be the successor to Lightyear which has a similar theme, and made to celebrate the same event. For its time, that one was way above my usual standards, and I like to think the same about this one too. I was forced to do better in hope that it could gain admission to ~TerraSpace's new pack...the first that is open to anyone who feels they have a chance of making it in. Wish me luck, and Happy new year to everybody !

The rights to this artwork has already been purchased. The customer allowed me to keep it in my gallery purely for display purposes. I'm afraid this one isn't for sale. Please do not use my images without permission

This is a well done photo, the hint if civilization is a nice touch on the planet, this gives an overall space sense.

Strangly I've watched very few sci-fi movies, and don't think I've read any books :shh: I've never able to get "into it" as much as with the art itself ^^;

i used to have lots of wallpaper's available, but people kept editing and re-distributing them as their own, so I was forced to watermak my "better" artworks...Especially this one, since I sold it to an online game-site, so only they have the rights to use it, and if other's get their hands on the un-watermarked version, I would get in trouble :hmm:

The planet looks like something out of Treasure Planet...except about a million times cooler :]
I love the lighting and the tiny space shuttle, which I think adds so much dimension...
It gives such an epic feeling of miraculousness; I love it!!

I still havn't seen treasure planet, But I do recall seeing a two-ringed planet on the poster though - that was cool 8-) Glad you think the shuttle adds dimension too, I figured that little thing would make eveyrthing else seem bigger by contrast :)

Oh yeah, With clever Photoshop skills, you can use Vue to "fake" the look of a Mojoworld render...I'm assuming you saw the raw render in that link, which cleary shows how much postwork was done :phew:

Thanks, I know the watermark kinda spoils the wallpaper-usage, I try to make some of my art un-watermarked since I had a few shallow watchers complain when I did start watermarking. But I still want to protect some of my art againts theft. I could probably make it un-watermarked if you intend on using the WP for a while though ;)

Yes, quite a few times, one site was even earning money off my art :pissed: thats the straw that broke the camel's back and caused me to start watermarking.

there is some good nebula stock images here that you outta check out for a good reference :-)

The nebula's here are the typical "cluster of stars surrounded by cloudy gas" but rather they contain thick, sharp-edged dust clouds like those seen in the Eagle nebula [link] Though I just need more practice making it look like that. Another good example that used no stock photo's at all is this deviation [link] which the artist painted from scratch like I did here.

I try to have different variety and styles of nebula between each space art, I get bored when I see the same type too often.

If you are referring to the large sphere its heading to, thats a planet. In case you get confused, a planet is an actual, solid object that can be landed on ( except the massive gas-planets...but theres none here ) A star is a burning ball of gas that sending a mission to would be foolish lol. The closest star here would be that blue one in the top-left
