Artist's Comments

Volcanoes, they have been around ever since the Earth first formed it's hard shell of a crust billions of years ago. they are often frowned upon as senseless natural disasters who's only purpose is to kill and destroy. But without their presence, their may be little left to kill in the first place. As after their destructive forces stop, their life-giving force starts, as the new, fertile soil gives opportunity for new life to emerge on what was once dead lands, but now, the richest growing grounds on Earth. A whole new forest will rise up from the ashes of the previous one...but not all is well, since it's only a matter of time before it can erupt again, and so, the cycle of life and death goes on.

My entry to :iconmaster-artists: next artpack, which is conveniently titled the same. But I thought this title, although the same as the pack was a good idea, because the concept itself is one of the most literal examples of that ( plus theres a song I listened to going by the same title again lol )

I thought I'd try some matte-painting here, but I'm saving my first serious matte-painting attept for my 100th deviation. Still, I spent quite some time improving on the original Vue render, this one is much more dramatic and detailed, especially the sky, which came our rather awful in the original Vue scene. And, well, thats about it, just Vue and Photoshop - a great combination for anyone interested in landscape matte painting

I might make a print when DA stops this never-ending uploading bug  but I just wasted an hour trying to upload the print-sized one on my shitty internet, so this will have to do for now until I find a better computer to take advantage of.

Man, you just keep cranking up the heat. :D This is INSANE. =P Never seen you do a volcano landscape before, so this definitely wins for a first-timer. :)

I've always loved volcanoes since they weren't just destructive. I love the entirety of this but I think my most favorite aspect is the clouds.

That's some really amazing work you've got there. I love how the little plant in the corner glows with life, it caught my attention first.

Thanks, I've actually got some other volcano scenes in my gallery, but many are of erupting ones with lots of lava and such, this one is a little less "active" :)

When she bent over, Rover took over and gave her a bone of his own.

Same here, and I also think the clouds came out the best part, my next scene will also have some similar-styled ones too :excited:

Whoops. ^^; My bad for that.

This one is actually pretty cool because you portrayed a volcano when it's more dormant, which is something you don't often see in art. :P You did one helluva an awesome number with this. :)
