Pandora Flora by priteeboy Pandora Flora by priteeboy
During this long drought of me not being able to produce any new art I was saved when I realized that I made this last year and never uploaded it. It's not in my nature to just forget to upload something I spent a couple of weeks working on, and that wasn't the case here either. This was actually designed to be printed out large and laminated as an aquarium background which was going to be given an Avatar at night theme. Unfortunately the real life setup didn't look as good as Imagined it and so was aborted (ugh, couple-hundred dollars well spent ) And I guess that disappointment put me in a sour mood about it for a while.
But Now I'm over it I can re-appreciate this again as another artwork which can finally be put into my gallery. The composition was set up for that initial purpose though and so may not entirely be what I would have gone with if it was going to just be another art-piece from the beginning and nothing more. But with no layered file anymore, Myself and the viewers are stuck with it as-is ;)

Anyway, it's safe to say that everytime a big movie, game, book, whatever comes out, all fan-art generated from it is about the characters. Avatar seems to have inspired the highest ratio of landscape-focused tributes and I guess this is another contributor to that (plus if I tried to draw a Na'Vi I'm sure it would have come out laughably fake compared to the scenery). I even paid careful attention to some good references I found of the fictional plants that made the most significant impact in the night-time scenes. My inner gardener was very critical about achieving botanical accuracy to plants that aren't even real :lmao:

Amazing work!

I have chosen "Pandora Flora" , together with  your beautiful   " Spiral spires" , for a non commercial video based on a suite of Pink Floyd. Your pictures  appear, respectively, at 4:14 and 4:19 . I hope you like it.

neat pandora landscape, for me the only part of Avatar that i didn't like were the designs of the Na'Vi, too humanoid for my tastes, it clashes with the colorful plants and animals of pandora itself, originally the Na'Vi were going to have six limbs and a reptile-like appearance (with scales i imagine), but it was scrapped because of sexy aliens and audience relating, i wish they should have used a Na'Vi with the same blue color, but with a bestial mouth and jaws, seven green compound eyes, six limbs, one organic USB neural queue, no hair, and reptile scales that glow with bioluminescence, what do you think of my Na'Vi idea?

I remember reading about that, and seeing some of the other designs for the Na'Vi too. Indeed those looked more a realistic since they were as alien as everything else there, but I can see why they were concerned about making them more appealing to the public (the movie wouldn't have been nearly as successful if they didn't) But the fact every other higher species there had six limbs while the Na'Vi had four did bother me (and a lot of other evolution fanatics I'm sure :shakefist:) but evolution can sometimes bring out exceptions to the rule. Many other beloved aliens from other franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek look incredibly humanoid too, as do a lot of fantasy creatures like Elves for example. People just like the look of other people I guess ^^;

One thing that I would have liked to see is the original "cyan forest" colour they were going to go with, but decided to go green "more like an earth rainforest" since again - would have looked more appealing to the public (a select few plants in the backgrounds were still blue/aqua though even during the day, but it was almost going to be the whole forest that colour :O_o:)

yup, and about the other aliens like in Star Wars, in The Force Awakens it still has generic humanoids but it seems that the mechanical Droids from the series (like the cute BB-8) have more interesting designs than the aliens, don't you think?, also the only aliens i liked in Star Wars were the Ithorians, the Dianoga and the Sarlacc.

Looks really impressive and well detailed. I know nothing about Avatar, so I'm taking this as it is. Yeah, and it's beautiful and fantasy-ish looking.

Glad you liked it  It's a great movie with some inspiring scenery, but it's also kinda long, so maybe go to the bathroom before you start if you ever decide to see it :XD:

Right you are then. ;-) I don’t mind a long movie if it’s quite absorbing and you can get into it. :-)

Nice, very nice. I was actually sure I wouldn't like the night version all too much, but the aquarium backstory really made it shine, I guess.
Can't believe there wouldn't be some satisfying solution for that with some proper backlighting.

On the other hand I have that unnerving habit of commenting before checking dates, so maybe all that was somewhere in the time before 200000 fully programmable LEDs were available for around twenty cents .
Hey, do cars still have tires and use gasoline or are they hovering, powered by fusion engines these days?

I looked at how much it would cost to have an LED backboard with this picture on it  back when I was going to do it. It would have cost me hundreds - money I'm now glad I didn't spend :phew:

Hi!
Is there any way I can get your contact information or email address? I found your beautiful artwork while actually looking for a Pandora-inspired background for my aquarium. I would love to purchase a copy so I can laminate the picture myself and use it across my tank. I am so excited and think it will work perfectly with the wonderland-pandora theme.

If you've ever heard of fan-art before (which is about 50% of everything uploaded to this site ever) you would know that people draw other people's ideas all the time. Characters, scenes, stories - it's not stilling if you draw it yourself and not use any pre-existing imagery made by someone else, as well as clearly credit the source of inspiration. I obeyed all the rules here, I did nothing wrong :aww:

well first of all i am loser in this case so i don't know anything but i can see the things witch are used already somewhere. that means you stole someones idea isn't that true? and you sale it on price as well you get profit by it, isn't it ? i am living in country where you can steal everything is that movie or game. but as a meaning i mean it is stilling. but i want to say that you are good art worker.
i was searching a background for avatar. we have animation costumes and i wanted to make poster of it. i liked your background but i had to use another one. i liked even how it was blocked :D later i can show how it looks like.
i'm not good at it but i am sure i'l be.
and i think when you can create something, it's best way to do it and not to use more other things

Well no, it's stealing ideas if you draw something and claim you came up with it yourself. I made it pretty obvious here that everything in the scene was inspired by Avatar, in the same way people draw anime characters and say they are from anime, or games, or movies, etc. Some of these people even sell their fan-art at conventions. I don't even do that. Most companies aren't bothered by other people drawing stuff they created since it promotes their product to a wider audience.

Your artworks are fantastic, this one in particular called my attention. Awesome! 3D art can really be considered SERIOUS after watching what you created. Sadly here on DA 3D art doesnt still have the place it deserves. I'm telling you as a varied artist who also make 3D and love it.  And your gardener should congrat you!

Glad you liked my work. Sadly 3D isn't really a big deal here. It's probably because most people don't understand it and assume it requires no real work. Plus I think a lot of the users of it don't really have the proper training to utilize it properly either since it's much harder to learn than digital painting, so a lot of the 3D galleries do look kinda "unfinished" so to speak. Though it does mean less competition in the 3D category, which is fine for those who can do something with it =p

YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT! What an accurate answer you gave me, I'm surprised but it's the truth! I for example, make my own 3D characters, I dont download them and push the Render Button. u.u I make even the textures but my artworks are not so viewed as the digital paintings, even though they take really a good deal of effort.
