Pandora Flora by priteeboy Pandora Flora by priteeboy
During this long drought of me not being able to produce any new art I was saved when I realized that I made this last year and never uploaded it. It's not in my nature to just forget to upload something I spent a couple of weeks working on, and that wasn't the case here either. This was actually designed to be printed out large and laminated as an aquarium background which was going to be given an Avatar at night theme. Unfortunately the real life setup didn't look as good as Imagined it and so was aborted (ugh, couple-hundred dollars well spent ) And I guess that disappointment put me in a sour mood about it for a while.
But Now I'm over it I can re-appreciate this again as another artwork which can finally be put into my gallery. The composition was set up for that initial purpose though and so may not entirely be what I would have gone with if it was going to just be another art-piece from the beginning and nothing more. But with no layered file anymore, Myself and the viewers are stuck with it as-is ;)

Anyway, it's safe to say that everytime a big movie, game, book, whatever comes out, all fan-art generated from it is about the characters. Avatar seems to have inspired the highest ratio of landscape-focused tributes and I guess this is another contributor to that (plus if I tried to draw a Na'Vi I'm sure it would have come out laughably fake compared to the scenery). I even paid careful attention to some good references I found of the fictional plants that made the most significant impact in the night-time scenes. My inner gardener was very critical about achieving botanical accuracy to plants that aren't even real :lmao:

Your artworks are fantastic, this one in particular called my attention. Awesome! 3D art can really be considered SERIOUS after watching what you created. Sadly here on DA 3D art doesnt still have the place it deserves. I'm telling you as a varied artist who also make 3D and love it.  And your gardener should congrat you!

Glad you liked my work. Sadly 3D isn't really a big deal here. It's probably because most people don't understand it and assume it requires no real work. Plus I think a lot of the users of it don't really have the proper training to utilize it properly either since it's much harder to learn than digital painting, so a lot of the 3D galleries do look kinda "unfinished" so to speak. Though it does mean less competition in the 3D category, which is fine for those who can do something with it =p

YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT! What an accurate answer you gave me, I'm surprised but it's the truth! I for example, make my own 3D characters, I dont download them and push the Render Button. u.u I make even the textures but my artworks are not so viewed as the digital paintings, even though they take really a good deal of effort.

Thankyou! It's quite hard to really capture the bizarre yet realistic look of the landscapes in the film. Even mine I think looks more fantasy-like than the actual movie scenes =p

:faint: I am so glad you realized you forgot about this!! I adore it - absolutely GORGEOUS! That's unfortunate it didn't come out well for the aquarium because it seems like it would be an amazing bg for it!! The purple glow looks so beautiful and I am in love with that stunning plant on the left with the red stems and blue leaves. Another brilliant piece with fantastic attention to the detail of all the vegetation!!

Thanks! Yeah some things are better left on-screen. The printout was way too dark and saturated (ugh, that was a waste of my money ) But I shouldn't let that sour my opinions on all the work I put in it.

A lot of the plants, including that one are based right out of those I saw in the movie

Such a bummer! But yeah, it's still an amazing piece on-screen so you should still be really proud of this one. Is this the first time you tried to get it printed for something like that?

I need to watch that movie again! It would be cool to see all the details on my dad's tv when I visit him next. =P

Yeah, first time - but the guys at the printing place didn't really do a great job, it did come out way too dark and over-saturated :p

Lucky a second one I did with a more typical underwater theme I took to somewhere else for printing came out much better :)

I'm using a differnet picture I did for my own tank now. But I'm growing bored of it already. Might have to consider a literal change of scenery :plotting:

I wouldn't call it that :stare: But yeah, it's like nature got amped up a lot. Kinda made Earth seem less brilliant by comparison, but lets not forget it was the inspiration for it :D

It had its moments. It seemed that only during that one scene the forest was really lit up to its fullest potential. Some of it was seen in later scenes but not quite to the same degree (unfortunately :shakefist:)

Dude you could have worked on the movie itself, this artwork is that amazing o.
but you know what, i just noticed it now that you said it, most fanart for movies & etc, Is mostly the characters themselves..i guess alot of movies really dont have strong background art or settings.. i just love how avatar wasnt like that cuz i was in that theater looking up at the screen like *_*

That would have been a great movie for someone like me to work on. Very nature-oriented which is rare for movies in its genre. I'm eagerly looking forward to the second one (so I've heard about anyway) I bet they'll get even more creative with the scenery :D

I suppose it makes sense that most fan-art is about characters, but I love seeing interesting fictional worlds represented just as much :)

They have probably seen every bit of Avatar-inspired art out there by now I think :XD: I often wonder if movie directors or even just the artists who work on them ever search for fan-art of their films :XD:
