Genius of the Lamp by priteeboy Genius of the Lamp by priteeboy
Those who read my journal made before this would have been left wondering what I meant by “A lamp…How are you going to connect that with space art” And here it is, my submission to Nameless Designers contest which requires to create original and unusual space-art.

Primarily made to just look cool, I also wanted it to have further meaning. The clever pun "Genius of the Lamp" could refer to whoever or whatever was responsible for creating such a marvellous universe which contains things big and small that are so amazing in how it all works that not even the most vivid imagination can rival its existence, here condensed down into a lava lamp which just happens to be shaped like a space rocket (I'm sure some of you have seen rocket-shaped lava lamps in gift shop windows). And surrounded by common household objects (based on things I own or once had). For extra interest, maybe the universe is just sitting on Almighty's desktop.

The lava blobs have relevance too; you can clearly see how it shows the creation and destruction of planets and life. Hot lava eventually cools and forms planets where life will rise when the planet is in its prime but it will inevitably fall back to its origin but they are not wasted, their material is melted down and recycled to rise once again. Just like the workings of a lava lamp.

As for the working process, well the most time consuming part by far was modelling all objects in Cinema 4D, which were then imported into Vue where they were textured and rendered. Lighting which was crucial proved exceedingly difficult but luckily, Good o'l Photoshop came in use and was used for other things besides the obviously Photoshopped blob details.

Long comment, I know but I had to say a lot for an idea that only comes around once in a very long time. Thanks for reading and Viewing !

This an amazing take on the universe I have never looked at it quite like this but it definitely gets the gears turning! Some day I hope to be able to get into PS and other software so I can bring my ideas to life like this! Thank you for sharing this piece is amazing!

Cool site, I never knew you could have marbellised-wax lava lamps :eyepopping: (I've had this specialty one that has an iceberg for the cap and base and blue water/white bubbles for probably a decade now :snowing:) but I'd like something more generic but still unusual nowadays :D

Hmm, is it like a blog or something? I don't mind people blogging about my work of credit is given and links back to my gallery are provided. But I discourage simply saving any of my art and re-uploading it to other sites like one would with any o'l image

You are ridiculously skilled with your stuff, dude. How? How can you be so good? How much time does it take for a single piece? And how long've you been doing these things?

Well if you must know - I have been drawing my whole life  yep, I wans't one of these who just "decided to draw" as soon as anime became popular and mae me start :lmao: I've been doing it for as long as I can remember and wa sknown around school for it :) but it didn't start really getting good until I came here, but I thouroughly enjoyed all those years beforehand too :aww:

I average around 15 hours or so a peice, was a bit longer back when I did this though, now I'm more skilled and have faster technology so it's a little quicker :phew:

Your whole life, huh? I drew a lot when I was around 10, but then other things started coming up and I just sorta stopped. Now I only draw occasionally, if I happen to feel like it.

15 hours, huh? Since I haven't drawn for a while, I can't really see myself working that long on a piece...

:iconwowplz: Wow, awesome! Simply genius. Are you sure there's not any aliens in contact with your brain, giving you all this inspiration? :XD:

There probably are aliens in contact with my brain - I have never been able to comprehend how "noraml" humans work

Yeah, I'm guessing they are the weather/landscape/planet/solar system/star/supernova/galaxy building aliens, and you're probably unconsciously receiving glimpses of their handywork. :XD:

I'm sub-normal, so I don't get them, either. :invisible:

Everytime I see one in a store window I get so tempted to buy it :eager: especially since they're cheaper these days (as little as ten years ago they cost a fortune! considering they have been out since like - the 60's :weed:) but I agree one like this would be worth the massive pricetag :omg:

Yea indeed , and it would be on all the time :D A source of endless visual joy :floating: Well here they are cheap but since the european union banned light bulbs they vanished from almost all stores. :( Since a lamp like this wont work with a energy saving lamp.

This is absolutely awesome! I love all the detail! Like the way the bonsai tree is reflected in the glass at the top of the lava lamp, and also the reflections on the parabola/sphere thing that's sitting on the desk off to the left side (I'm sure there's a real name for it). The marbles in the front, the amethyst crystals in that little holder behind them, and how the lava starts out as molten blobs and turns into planets...just...*takes a deep breath*...WOW!

Great concept and execution. I am blown away! :faint:

Thankyou very much, I can see that you really took each little detail into account. I think those chrome sphere things are called "Newton's Cradle" - but that's based purely on another comment I got, so don't quote me on that ;)

Thankyou for faving too

Thanks, guess a brilliant concept is fitting to the title  I sometimes think of re-doing this one since the concept is just too good to waste on anything but my best current skill :plotting: But it can wait - my production line is full for now ;p

If you do ever do a newer version, let me know! This piece really put at a loss for words. It also makes the viewer think about the bigger picture instead of being caught up in our own little lives. There's so much out there that we don't even know about yet!
