Artist's Comments

Those who read my journal made before this would have been left wondering what I meant by “A lamp…How are you going to connect that with space art” And here it is, my submission to Nameless Designers contest which requires to create original and unusual space-art.

Primarily made to just look cool, I also wanted it to have further meaning. The clever pun “Genius of the Lamp” could refer to whoever or whatever was responsible for creating such a marvellous universe which contains things big and small that are so amazing in how it all works that not even the most vivid imagination can rival its existence, here condensed down into a lava lamp which just happens to be shaped like a space rocket (I’m sure some of you have seen rocket-shaped lava lamps in gift shop windows). And surrounded by common household objects (based on things I own…or once had). For extra interest…maybe the universe is just sitting on Almighty’s desktop.

The lava blobs have relevance too; you can clearly see how it shows the creation and destruction of planets and life. Hot lava eventually cools and forms planets where life will rise when the planet is in its prime but it will inevitably fall back to its origin but they are not wasted, their material is melted down and recycled to rise once again. Just like the workings of a lava lamp.

As for the working process, well the most time consuming part by far was modelling all objects in Cinema 4D, which were then imported into Vue where they were textured and rendered. Lighting which was crucial proved exceedingly difficult but luckily, Good o’l Photoshop came in use and was used for other things besides the obviously Photoshopped blobs. Heres the original, unedited render by contrast [link]

Long comment, I know but I had to say a lot for an idea that only comes around once in a very long time. Thanks for reading and Viewing !

That is pretty kowl! :)
The lights and shadows are so consuming! COOL

But I indeed felt like the stone on the left doesnt look this real in the close view and are you sure about the reflection of the taws? It somehow looks tweaky
