Desert Storm

Description

An alien landscape that was given the cut from that calendar I'm working on. It's happened before with the last one I did when two scenes were pulled out since they weren't quite what I imagined them to be, yet were still at least good enough to be posted as their own standalone artworks. I spent too much time on this to just leave it to rot on my hard drive :dead:

The calendar focuses on hypothetical environments that could possibly exist throughout the universe. Some are "dead" planets with no atmosphere or life, but are centred around some cosmic event going on on it anyway, some though are a little closer to home (not literally of course) and feature plant life. This one, inspired by a mid-western style desert, features two suns (making it part of a binary system) contributing to excessive heat and occasional wild weather due to the extra solar energy it receives. A main sun is not in view as it's behind where the viewer would be, illuminating the landscape through a brief gap in the storm. A secondary smaller and dimmer sun can be seen rising in the background. The plants are inspired by cacti and succulents and their odd, almost reflective silver/grey colouration could be a response to the extra sunlight that needs to be reflected back out, while their thick stems store whatever rain comes, as similar plants do here on Earth.
Created mostly in Vue with some Photoshop involved too.

This would really make an awesome location in an open world game. So cool.
