Dark side of the Sun by priteeboy Dark side of the Sun by priteeboy
Realism was completely thrown out the door in favour of something that simply looked cool for this one, I made it for a contest where art inspired by a song by Tokio Hotel was the goal (see here [link] hosted by *Egil21), Can't say I'm a big fan of the music so no point fangasming to me over it :XD: but as soon as I noticed one titled "Dark side of the Sun" - well I got a pretty strange but literal image in my head...A black sun, eerily still managing to illumate its surroundings with its feeble glow.

This was all digitally painted, making that the second one in a row done that way I guess. I can't wait to do something with my beloved 3D again but recently most of my ideas have little use for it and plus I feel obligated to excercise my general Digital painting skills again anyway, no textures or stocks used either

Lastly, only hours before submitting this I was informed that a long-time and loyal watcher of mine *ErilisVampyre had passed away. Knowing that she would have loved this as much as all my other works, I dedicate this to her :aww:

Anyway, I hope you all like it :D

I remember playing that eons ago at a friends house but I never had a copy myself. I did love the wackiness of it all. Come to think about it, I did buy and download it on the Wii but have been too busy to play it :shakefist:

I wonder if the old cheat still works.

In the first level, the junkyard, you could enter a code on the controller and you'd hear the game go "Cheater!" in a sullen tone before skipping over that level and the space scene to reach the Hell-like Level 2, xD

It reminds me of the game Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

Most definitely not what I'm used to seeing you do :dummy: But it doesn't make it any less awesome. I love the rings and smaller details on the planet and within the rest of the picture. This really makes me feel like I am standing there watching this dark star....

Aw... that's heartbreaking... good on ya for the dedication. :huggle:

Hah, why is it your images always come up first when I'm looking for good dreamy, surreal images? Well, I'll post what I usually do below...

Can I use this image in a YouTube video? It will be a static background image to one of my songs.

I will, of course, credit you as the artist and provide a link to your deviant art page (or another site if you prefer it.)

Thanks,
NEO (www.youtube.com/neweonorchestra)

I already let you use one image, I think that's fair enough as normally I don't allow usage of my art at all, I only said yes to that one because it's an older work that I wasn't too concerned about anymore :p but please don't use this one thanks.

No worries :) I send the same message to several different artists when I'm only looking for one image because many will not respond until weeks or months later. And it never hurts to ask.

Yeah, and some artists don't even respond at all - and then they complain why the person used it without permission  but to be safe - no response usually means "no" anyway :XD:

I think I only learned it since for so many years I had access to 2D programs only and since I was at some stage - a traditional artist, 2D did seem fine for me but way up until 2007 - I had never even sat in front of a 3D program so I practically had years of time to learn 2D before moving to 3D and using the two together :teamwork: I bet if I started out in 3D first, I probably never would have bothered to learn 2D since I admit 3D, especially Vue is a bit more fun  but most of my hope in making anything from my art lies in 2D I think so I value that a lot too :painter:

Wow. I really love this! Can't stop staring at it. Its like Salvadore Dali meets space and time. Great colors. Very surreal. Would make a great foundation for a story. >.> *hides pen behind her back* XD Faved!

Lol, I neve rconsidered Salvadore Dali actually but that's usually the type of stuff that comes to my mind when thinking about strange and surreal scenery :eyepopping: would have been cool if he did a space scene actualy  Glad you liked mine :)

Thanks a lot, really glad to hear that especially considering I hear many recently are losing interest in the genre because it has become reptitive (though it's one of the few types of "common art" that's always good to see when done right :omg:) But still, I do try to make something unique among the general space art community

Had I not been smitten by the dark sun the swiss cheese landscape would have done me in anyway. I love everything about this, from the colors to the composition to just about everything. Faveage.

Glad you liked both main features of it, it was a little risky combining a black sun with such an unexpected type of landscape :XD: the colours I must have gone through the whole spectrum before settling on a scheme I liked...Good thing Photoshop makes colour changing easy since I was indecisive on that this time :pills:

Thankyou!

Thanks a lot, I'm surprised I havn't seen one already actually :O It can be represented in so many different colours too, I tried even purple and green on the sun and surrounding scene and they looked good though (but still kept with something a bit warmer and more sinister )

Looks kinda like the core has shifted out of the hydrogen burning stage and into helium, or gone all the way to iron. Actually now that I think about it it seems more like a black dwarf.

But you also said that fact was thrown out of the situation so I should stop. Nice pic though!
