This floating fortess of fear is many things - My halloween deviation for this year, submitted exactly one full year after the last, My entry to This contest held by `TerrorCookie and most importantly, the 5th floating island deviation I've added to this slowly growing series. A list of the others can be seen at the bottom.
Is it just me, or have I seen that Tree on the far-right of the island before? Gee gang, no need to split up this time, I've solved the mystery of where that old tree surrounded by graves was located, and it only took a year lol
Seriously, it took a year! - not working time of course (though this did take twice as long as usual, the floating island ones always tend to do so) But I mean the concept, I came up with this image in mind only a month after last year's Halloween submission, I was going to do it anyway, but I decided to put it off for 11 months and save it for now, wow a year sure goes fast!
Done mostly in Photoshop (about 95%) with just a good o'l mouse as usual. Theres a little bit of 3D in there for the island and wacky house which was the raw material I started with and work on and around.
Other floating island deviations in order of age: 1st - the tropical lagoon Hang gardens 2nd - autumn sunrise village High rise 3rd - night time city Night flight 4th - snowy ski resort Ski skies 6th - storm station Thunder factory
EDIT: ~Pr3t3nd3r suggested a little "hang-man" to be included, I thought it was a cool idea, so I did a skeleton hanging from the tree...who know's how long ago he was hung Included some bats also!

In the off-chance you see this in an iPhone app called "Monster Havoc" [link] don't worry, it's not stolen - the creator got my permission to use this
Oh wow, I absolutely love this - floating horror island in the moonlight sky! Awesomeness! I love the distorted dimensions you created here, invoking the horror aspects of something "not quite right" - fabulous
Nice, and all with using a mouse. I'm an old school artist. Computers were just in someone's imagination when I started out. Just started playing with digital art a week ago. I'm learning it on something call Gimp Photo shop. I saw this piece posted up on the "Why do people blame their mouse/trackpad?". I agree with your comment. Tools don't make the artist, it's the artist that makes the tools.
I spent most of my younger years drawing and painting using more traditional tools too (maybe for not as long as you have though ) Since computers and digital programs were around, but not used much during that time. They certainly weren't as cheap and accessible as they are now But I liked moving to digital though, I feel less restricted. But I don't see why others can't do both if they really wanted to, I did for a number of years
It's not common for someone to say this is their all-time favourite of mine. But I suppose it's still within my top 25 (which is a lot with almost 200 in total )
Yes, I sometimes think about including that tree again in another haunted scene someday
