Artist's Comments

The second of my series of seasonal bonsai trees, started in Autumn with Blushing Bonsai. Each one will be submitted at the time it's particular season is at it's peak (for those in Summer right now, remember it's winter where I am) This was delayed a little due to other stuff like my Birthday deviation, a club pack entry, and my 100th deviation, all of which had to be done first. Though I saved a little time because I started it a wile back, and finishe dit recently (thats how I was able to submit it so soon after my last lol)

The scene was intended to be similar, but not the same as the other one, the tree is noticably different with it's cascading shape, and the background has changed too. It's not supposed to be the same tree in the same spot, just a similar "idea" over all.

Other seasonal trees:
Spring - Blossoming Bonsai
Summer - Basking Bonsai
Autumn - Blushing Bonsai

Great job. Looks really cool!

You might want to try a bit of displacement on the tree trunk material. Makes for very interesting effects. ;)

First to comment. As always as great as ever, keep up the good work.
Note: You could improve on the branch of the bonsai tree.

That's great to look at it. Nice atmosphere.
On the right side it could be a little bit "smoother". :XD:

Sooooo pretty!

May I ask, are you studying something in Uni about this or do you just do these artworks by pure talent when bored?

Displacement ay? I think I tried that ages ago in the plant editor, and got really weird results (some parts of the trunk were "broken up" buy it) This is actually a composition of edited Vue plants, the main trunk derived from the "dead tree" and the leaf-clusters are seperate tress again (had to postwork their trunks out, parts showed below the leaves and it looked horrible lol)

Since it's dark, I could postwork the trunk later, making it's edges a but more rough and bumpy, by "cloning" parts of the existing trunk in Photoshop, the snow-covered side will remain fairly smooth, seeing how the snow would "fill out" the parts that it covered :snowflake:

Lol, just missed out on first comment man, but oh well. Glad you like it, and I am now thinking of fixing the trunk and branches a bit anyway (couldn't now, had to declare it "finished" to make time for some contest entries) But I guess that won't take long :)

Thanks, when you are referring to the right side, do you mean the tree, or the rocks?

Thanks, I originally intended this "series" to be more "real" in looks, but a realistic winter scene like this would seem pretty dull and depressing, so I added the shiny, frost-covered leaves and blue lighting, just to make it look nicer than what would have been a very dead and grey scene
