Brilliance of light by priteeboy Brilliance of light by priteeboy
This was created for Desktopography 2009 - a collaborative wallpaper project, his year's pack launched only the day before I submitted this, so check it out while it's still fresh [link] The theme was "Nature" and both a standard screen and widescreen wallpaper of this is available among many other great backgrounds. However this vertical version is what I consider to be the original :deviation:

It was also an experiment on using Vue's "Godrays" feature, a powerful tool good for simulating bursts of light through dark skies, I couldn't fully grasp how to make good distinctive ones until watching =nukeation's video tutorial on it. So props to him too :)

What I wanted to make here is something that has been a reasonably popular category of digital art for a long time now called "Terraspace" - where a 3D landscape (often made in Terragen, but as I showed - Vue works fine too) would then be combined with a celestial sky to make a nice looking scene...But the disappoining fact is the few artists that could do this stuff well have been dead for along time here, Good Terraspace art is hard to find these days on dA, given how the artists were much more productive only a few years ago...So this is mine, making up for the lack of others. No special concept or attempt to be original here. Just carrying the dead weight of former Terraspace artists :tombstone:

Created in Vue 7 and Photoshop, as usual =p

Artwork made and copyrighted by me and is not to be use din any form of digital or printed media without permission. Wallpapers of mine and other's work are for personal screen use only!

Then he said 'There shall be light!!!1!!one!!!!11' Sorry, I was just being a goof.

Anyway, love this pic, and a lot of your other ones as well. They're all well adjusted, great texture, amazing color, and just stunning. I've seen a lot of pictures on deviantART since I became a member, and I must say; you are one of the best.

Even God makes those silly typo's. Just hold down the shift key all the way through God! :stare:

There's a lot of artworks in this genre, it can be really hard to stand out among hundreds of other artists doing the same thing, but to me that just forces more creativity and a desire to not fall into common themes or styles. I'm glad people notice this :)

That's why I always try to perfect my typing so it's not... ya' know, half-assed. ;P

I don't know how, but I look at your particular works of art, and i'm able to notice it's you immediately. I don't need to see a screen name, or a water mark, it just stands out from the rest.

You have some really impressive visions with your planetary art pieces... Excellent use of lighting and unique scenes that set you way apart from so many other planetary scenes I've seen.

Thanks for the compliment :) Yes, the genre of space-based artwork is surprisingly common here, so I make as much effort as I can to keep mine unique from the many others people are creating here. Sometimes that means sacrificing realism, but I prefer art that looks interesting more than realistic :D

I think you keep yours realistic, if not necessarily grounded. Does that make sense? Yours has an artsy feel to it, which I guess could be called fantasy, but you cna see things in nature that look just as startlingly impressive.

Thanks! Sometimes I like to imagine what the sky would be look with some nearby worlds up there - much more interesting :D

There's good quality art in both digital and traditional, sometimes lesser-drawn stuff needs to be searched for harder though, but there's a good artist to be found for everything here

You must have a beautiful mind to create art like this. I could look at your space art all day. The nebula at the top left is my favorite part of this one.

Thanks! I do have a ot of imagination when it comes to scene ideas  The nebula I think is still one of my best, I must admit it was partially a fortunate accident since I've had trouble trying to create another one like it since :O_o:

That landscape looks so beautiful and natural :) The Gas Giant texture is one of the best of its kind and I really like its color too, but it looks like its inside the atmosphere for some reason though.. great job

Yeah I was pretty happy with that. It was actually based off textures I used in my Gas Giant Resource Pack, so you know I take pride in my stocks when even I consider them good enough to use in my own  there was some modifications though that practically anyone who has done space art before can do :p

The clouds in the atmosphere end right as the gas giant begins. It can be hard to tell the depth there because there's no really obvious ones passing in front of it. So I just rested it on the fact that people should just know it's outside the atmosphere ;)

I just love that "Godrays feature" in Vue, it makes for some pretty spectacular pieces, such as this one.

This is the first time I used them properly, I tried a few times before but they came out kinda weak, learning the settings for optimum Godrays really helps  but man - rendering them at this quality so there's no grainyness takes forever :faint:

Aforementioned astronomical impossibilities aside, this is a very neat image... very scenic.

Can I use this image in a YouTube video? It will be a static background image to one of my songs I wrote a few years back.

I will, of course, credit you as the artist and provide a link to your deviant art page (or another site if you prefer it.)

Thanks,
NEO (www.youtube.com/neweonorchestra)

Hmm, my main concern is that if one day, someone wants to buy the rights to this image, having it on youtube may cause a problem :hmm: maybe first look around and see if you can find something similar (and in a horizontal format which would be better for the videos after looking at some of them...nice music by the way )

Heheh, it's these kinds of things that come up that I ask for permission before using. Most people say yes, but I have found one person who strictly said no.

The reason I chose this image in particular was because of the misty light coming toward the observer. The song I was thinking of coupling the image with is called "Lux," which would be appropriate.

Could I perhaps use your image "Morning Mist" instead? The only problem with that one, however, is that I can't get a large image without a deviant art logo on the front.

Thanks for listening to a few of my tracks :) I wish I were as good at music as you are at computer graphics!

Yeah, the morning mist one I'm less protective over. I can upload it to an image-hosting site without the watermark and you can get it there. If you prefer it a different colour (rather than yellow) I can change that too :)

Hmm... do you think you could make the mist dark blue/purple? That's kind of a running color I try to use.

Thanks for your help :D

Not sure if this is the right kind of purple, you can Photoshop the colours if you want, but here [link] you should state it was modified and used with my permission in case anyone gets suscpicious too and link back to the original ;)

That will do quite nicely, actually!

My latest version of Photoshop is 5.5. If I were more graphically inclined I'd be ready for an upgrade, heheh. But I know the basics, at any rate.

I'm not sure when I will have the video up. I first need to upload the last 5 tracks from my original album (which I'm waiting on people to respond me regarding usage of their images still), but I'll send you a link to the complete video when it's done.

Thanks again!
