Balmy Nights by priteeboy Balmy Nights by priteeboy
It was hard to decide which catergory to submit this in, Originally intended as a wallpaper but then I realised there had to be specific dimensions, Then it was the choice between landscapes and scenery or fantasy and though it may have some fantasy qualities, I thought it is too Earth - like to be fantasy. So here You go, A pretty midnight scenery.
A second version similar to this called Valley Dew [link]

Third and improved version 'Nightfall' [link]

It may be pretty, but it is also copyrighted. Do not steal this image

I like the sky, and the moon and stars in it. And the little flowers at the bottom in the plants there.

Thankyou, yep - even in my old ones I took detail into careful account (often negletcing other things like composition and perspective in favour of it ) but for its time I was very proud of this :)

Well, it can be done by someone who has both a lot of determination, the right programs and a much-needed artistic eye. At the time I did this, I had previously been doing Digital art for a few years, this was only early on in the period of time when I decided to finally start taking Digital art more seriously, the others that I made before coming to DA showed very littleprogress in Quality over the years, as you can tell by my newer stuff, I have improved more in the 2 years I have been on DA than I did in about 4 or 5 years before coming here ( all the good art here forced me to live up to them lol )

The actual method used to create this would take forever to explain, the program provides you with the basic tools you need to draw and paint, just like you would traditionally, but using a mouse rather than a brush to create your art. Sometimes, using stock photo's and textures like I did on the clouds and mountains helps out in creating more realistic effects too, But I try to have more "manual work" in there than just Photo-manipulated stuff. Having a knowledge of traditional art is important too, as the basics of colour theory, shading and perspective all are neccessary to making good digital art as well, and I have done my fair share of drawings and paintings in my lifetime ;)

I like both very much! Maybe change the title of this one to Balmy DAY on the Westside and add a direction to the revised Balmy Night (like Balmy Night Eastward) I just think you should put both of them together, yet separate them...oh hell, I can't explain it. But I LOVE THEM BOTH!!

I have sometimes thought of making a daytime scene continuing after this one. But I will save that for when I'm not running hot on better concepts.

Well I guess it looks icy due to it being blue rather than grey or yellow. I was aiming for a warm, humid feel to it as tropical nights are, but used blue to give it a calm, still effect. So blue would have been more effective than yellow.

I can't help Myself Okunisan. Everyone, including Myself says that I do better at Scenery than anything else. every artist always has their one theme they really Shine in. However I try not to limit Myself to scenery alone, I like doing other stuff aswell. But My landscapes are often better, and more enjoyable to make than My other artworks. There is going to be plenty more where this came from.
And the Moon... well the night-time just wouldn't be the same without it. And My starsign is Cancer ( Mr Krabs ) so My lucky planet/moon/sun etc is The Moon itself. The same Moon that fascinates all people who take the time to admire it.

I agree with you... You're better in scenery and stuff like that. Cancer?... We're the same!!!! hehehe.... That's pretty amusing! Actually I'm making a manga for myself and one of the character's name (Mizuki) has the meaning of "beautiful moon". I didn't know that was related to my star sign not until now...

Thanks for the great answer. I say if you go through the work to make the brush, it ain't lazy. Mountains do require special care.

Sorry if My reply was a little late, but I just realised there was a question in Your comment. The leaves were actually a custom brush I made in paint shop 6 where I drew the leaves freehand and set them as a brush which makes instant leaves ( saves a lot of time ) I dont think this can be done in photoshop. but I also can make instant trees, flowers, clouds etc. but some people may consider this lazy, so for each picture I manipulate the plants etc. to suit the environment ( in this case a blueish grey scenery so I dulled them down ) however large things such as mountains and close up trees are done manually each time to ensure that no two are identical.

Try using textures, darken and lighten brushes set to a small scale to make rough-looking mountains. I have done this for years but didn't really excel until I joined deviantart.
