Background - Glitter Grotto by priteeboy Background - Glitter Grotto by priteeboy
With the contest extended, I thought I'd try and make another environment for *wewy's contest. This time, less realistic and more fantasy-like ( phew, just made it in too )....

Glitter Grotto is a medium sized city which was originally a mining town, but evolved into a tourist attraction. Built around the biggest crystal inside what is actually a colossal geode rather than a true cave, this city is nested where it can be well-lit from the light coming from the crystal, as well as feeding most of its power-needs from the energy it radiates. Its light gives off a beautiful sight as it refracts through the glassy bodies of millions of other huge gems scattered all over the rock walls, each appearing as a faint purple flash from such a distance.

And as you can imagine, if this were a stage in a game, you would be sure to run into some very interesting characters ( and enemies ) in this dark, mysterious world

crystals are awesome. Can you make a quick picture of massive crystal deposits floating in the sky? I would love to see it on your site.

Sorry, no free requests. Whatever time I don't spend on paying commissions I prefer to work on one of many of my own ideas that I've been wanting to execute for ages

If you want to see one that badly you could try commissioning me, I have done crystals in commissions before [link] :)

omg this is gorgeous. You need to set up a page of all these rooms. Holy christ I wish I could draw like that. As I had told you a while ago, I use paint shop pro and make rooms people like but damn I wish I could do this type of detail. This be great for a secret room with treaure in it. This is sort of what I am interested in but lower on the glitter. I want to set you up for our site on the main log in page for art work for people to take notice. I also sent you a note :)

I actually started out with Paint Shop Pro 6 and that's all I had for 6 years starting from 2001  I created some reasonably detailed stuff in my later years with it before upgrading to Photoshop, it is possible

More likely Crash Crystals I'd say ;) others have also mentioned some other games too, but I forget the names. Guess glowing crystals are very popular in games and fantasy/sci-fi movies :D

Lol, I totally forgot about the ones you actually collect :stupidme: I was thinking of the ones you sometimes see in the actual stage-backgrounds (especially the underground stages 8-))

It was this Jim Henson puppet show that was on when I was a kid. It was about these creatures that lived in an underground country called Fraggle Rock, which is just a system of caves with inexpliable light sources coming from all over the place. Weird as hell. Anyway, one of the "sets" looked like this deviation.

You can find the opening credits and clips from the show on Youtube, unless they've been taken down.

Thanks for the llama, by the way.

Ahh, I kne wit sounded a little likd a kids show, I remember they almost looked Sesame Street-esque, I think one was called "Gobo" since I had a storybook involing that character...or something like it :XD:

Yeah, Gobo was the main character with no personality. Then there was Wembley, who was the wishy-washy one, Boober, who was the buzzkill, Mokey, who was the hippy chick, and Red, who was the bitch. :)

They guest starred in a Muppet Christmas special where they were inexplicably twice as large as in their own show.

Never played Starcraft, eh? Eh, I say!

It's become a famous phrase from a very famous PC real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment (now it's quite old, and just as popular). That particular phrase was very catchy (meant you were out of a certain resource), because its voice acting was terrific, it was just a thing that stuck on your brain.

OMG.

CRYSTALS.

YAY.

Umm, may I be so rude as to inquire the name of what program you used to create such an image?

:iconpriteeboy:
priteeboy Featured By Owner Aug 2, 2009  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Not rude at all, I actually used all thre eof my main programs to make this, 2 are 3D, one I used to model the crystals called Cinema 4D, another used because it's better for landscaping stuff - Vue 6 (now I used the newer Vue 7 though) which I used to make most of the cave and where I textured and adding the lighting to all that was 3D, and finally - extra effects and touch-up's were done in good o'l Photoshop

Not that all three were neccessary, one could make the same image in just one, but it would be longer and harder to do, I have three so I might as well exploit the best features of each to save me some time and broaden my options :w00t:
