Across The Universe by priteeboy Across The Universe by priteeboy
Finally it's time for me to be able to show off a new calendar, after working on this one for months, keeping its artwork in secret the whole time to make sure its fresh and original in the eyes of potential buyers ;) Just like I did before, four years ago (so much for making a new one every 2 years like I promised myself)

Focusing on what I'm best at, this calendar is about hypothetical planets that have the potential to actually exist. I wanted to go far out, but to the point of the impossible or ridiculously unlikely. Having said that, some artistic choices did trump a few scientific ones, but overall I wanted to establish a mood of realism, but also a tribute to the days of traditional sci-fi and space themed artwork which always had an interesting style and equally bizarre concepts :)

There was supposed to be a Flash presentation for this just like there was for the last one, but that fell through. Another way to view the artwork inside so you know what you're getting is to click "buy print" (don't worry, you won't actually buy it unless you follow all the further prompts, you'll just be taken to the shop page) the months will be listed below, just click the month to see the artwork for it.

This looks like a Title Screen to a video game.  Love it.

I never thought of it that way before. In a way this was meant to be a title screen for a Flash presentation of the calendar's artworks - but the guy I needed to help me do it didn't come through for me :shakefist:

Haha, dA gives me $5 for each sale, so it might take a few before I can have a nice dinner :XD: Lucky I have a day job after all

January's one would give me the creeps in real life. Not sure how fond I would be of "meat trees" as I call them. Much like soft corals - I think they'd be pretty to look at but I'd be too squeamish to touch them :XD: But it's one of my favourites too for its unique pink/purple colour scheme which I could only really get away with in that early sunrise setting :D

My absolute favorite is probably June, but February, October, and December are my other favorites. It was well worth getting a present on Christmas for, in my opinion.

I made the first review? That just made me happy. :D

I absolutely love your work! Have you tried putting your calendar up on like Amazon or another website like that? Maybe DA isn't quite the right venue? Your art is so amazing!

Eh, I stick with dA because it's where people know me. I'd probably have less luck elsewhere, not without having to put in more work than what the end product would be worth.

Anything worthwhile takes time and isn't always going together in a snap. Work and rework, schedules, ideas, revisions are all a part of it as are sweat and tears and happiness. I am sure any great artist goes through it but the reward is knowing that all through it you have created something that is unique and very worthy. Take comfort, people have noticed your efforts and I'm sure one of these times you will be The One that everyone will be talking about--Great things take time, be patient, your time is coming. You are truly an Artist in the Full meaning of the word. Thank you for your works, Matthew.

Thanks for your nice words :) While didn't really take off as much as I'd hoped, I knew it was going to be worthwhile anyway since these were all ideas I had in mind for ages, and putting them as part of a collection was the perfect format for them 8-)

Worth the wait, definitely! There are so many cool concepts here, but October and December really stand out for me. :D You put a lot of time and effort into each and every one of these and it really shows. I hope I get to buy one of your calenders one of these years. I'd love to have this in my bedroom and wake up to it every day. :)

really awesome work! (I just found out how to see all the months in preview) I guess april is my fav but I also love the calming light mood on january.

you created some life forms on different planets - I wish we'd find out within our lifetimes if there is really life somewhere outwhere ..
